Today, we’re pleased to introduce Emily McBride, a key member of the Alma del Pueblo sales team. Emily, with 12 years of experience in real estate, is also an accomplished artist whose sweeping canvases capture the region’s stunning natural beauty.
What do you think makes Santa Barbara so special?
The geography alone is so amazing here – wedged between the ocean and the mountains. Also, it’s not a run-on city. We have a true downtown, which gives it that bigger city feeling without too much hustle and bustle.
I was bi-coastal for a while, working on a large real estate project in New York City for several months. As much as I enjoyed New York, that experience made me appreciate Santa Barbara even more.
What would be your ideal day in Santa Barbara?
I’d probably wake up and have my tea, which I always do. Then you’d probably find me hiking Romero Canyon or Cold Springs Trail. Those are two of my favorite trails. Or, you might find me out on a beach walk, or painting, or working on one of my personal real estate projects. I’ve been doing a lot of my own projects lately, which has been really fun.
What do you like about selling homes to people?
I really enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. I have clients who are local, and also clients from around the world. When I’m out seeing homes, I pick up quite a bit of creative inspiration, whether I see finishes on a home that I really love, or a stunning view, or a piece of art that strikes a chord.
What makes the Alma del Pueblo project so unique?
So many things stand out, but the first is definitely the Public Market. It’s not just another commercial component or the classic mixed-use we’re accustomed to. The Public Market will be different than anything Santa Barbara has seen before. Pick up your wine here, your noodles there, your produce from another merchant, and your flowers from another.
Also, the quality of construction is so superior. Certified LEED-Platinum. Steel Frame. Our project leader, Marge Cafarelli, is deeply involved and cares so intensely about Alma del Pueblo, what it offers to the community and what it will look like when it’s done.
And, of course, there are the amazing amenities. Where can you find a rooftop for homeowners’ exclusive use, a club room for entertaining, guest rooms for visitors, the wine storage, and raised planter beds for gardening, and more?
What’s one of your personal favorite highlights of the project?
I love the location. I can’t wait to walk by the building and see the architecture up against the Arlington Theater, and experience the buzz of residents and shoppers coming and going from the market, and to shop in the Public Market myself. I think about what it used to be, the old Von’s grocery store and, prior to that a Safeway. So, to see it continue as a market, but one with independent merchants selling the best our region has to offer is a pretty special change. I’m proud to be involved in this project.
